Greg O’Brien is a former Salt of the Earth investigative journalist who has written for numerous national and regional publications including AP, Time, The Washington Post. He wrote the international award-winning bestseller, On Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s, which inspired the documentary Have You Heard About Greg, A Journey through Alzheimer’s with Faith, Hope and Humor that connects audiences to a diagnosis that never is that too often silenced.
There are over 6 million people living in the United States who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease/dementia. The goals of the film are to get people talking about a much more impactful and far more damaging silent pandemic that threatens to destroy America’s healthcare system and millions of lives by 2050. This threat is real.
The idea for this remarkably heartfelt documentary was born at a 50-year-old high school reunion when a childhood friend asked Ecclesine, “Have you heard of Greg?” It turns out that both of their mothers died of Alzheimer’s disease and after reconnecting with a caregiver conference in Scottsdale, AZ where Greg was the keynote speaker, Ecclesine realized he wanted to tell this powerful story about a real-life hero on a real-life hero’s journey and attempt to put a human face on this most feared disease.
Thirteen years after his diagnosis, Greg’s tenacity as an investigative journalist has taught him to live with the disease, not die from it. He is still thriving because he decided early on to share his story with faith, hope and humor. Surrounded by his family, Greg introduces us to many dedicated experts he has befriended along his journey and together they challenge the public to put aside the stigma of Alzheimer’s disease and Engage in conversation with family members, friends and caregivers who are all affected.
bestselling author Lisa Genoa offers his perspective throughout the film as a neurologist/writer and his book “Still Alice” was made into an Oscar®-winning feature film. Chapter 13 of its latest release – Remember! Is dedicated to Greg O’Brien. Rudy TanziPhD, professor of neurology, founder of the Cure Alzheimer fund, offers concrete measures that can help patients delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
“This film really underscores the crucial sense of urgency needed to fight this devastating disease and the importance of clinical trials,” O’Brien said. “I’m grateful to have this platform to share my story and help others deal with some of the things I face all the time with my family.”
The movie will start to come out May 6 in select theaters nationwide through a veteran film distributor by Scott Kennedy Falling Forward Films, Inc.
